Mounjaro Prescription Requirements in Canada

Most requirements do not care which GLP-1 medication is named on the application. One does. Both halves are below, and the second half is short but decisive.

• A prescription — no exceptions. Mounjaro is prescription-only across Canada, online or at the counter. Any website offering to ship it without a clinician's review is operating outside the Canadian prescription system.
• Adult age. Felix states anyone 18 or older can use its service, and Hims Canada states the same 18 minimum (both verified 2026-08-14). Maple publishes no minimum age we could find; its membership covers dependants under 18, which is a different statement.
• A province a provider serves. Felix: Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Prince Edward Island. Hims Canada: all ten provinces, with no territory named either way. Maple: every province and territory, though its Weight Medication Assessment specialty excludes Nova Scotia, Nunavut and the Northwest Territories. (All verified 2026-08-14.)
• Identity documents. Providers verify who you are and where you live as part of intake. Which documents each one accepts is provider-specific and published on their own intake pages; we have not verified the accepted-document list for any provider here.
• Your intake information. Health history, a complete list of current medications, and height and weight — the inputs a clinician screens against the provider's published intake criteria.
• A way to pay for two separate things. Visit fees first: Felix charges $0 for the initial visit plus $40 for every follow-up visit; Hims Canada publishes an online visit from $39, charged only if a clinician finds you eligible; Maple sells a $210 visit or a $95 monthly membership in Quebec and an $85 monthly family membership in the rest of the country (all verified 2026-08-14). Medication is always billed separately, and for tirzepatide it is the larger number by far — see below.

• Mounjaro-specific: a per-pen budget that starts higher. Felix publishes tirzepatide prices per pen — $350.60 at 2.5mg, $364.04 at 5mg, $413.55 at 7.5mg and 10mg, and $501.88 at 12.5mg and 15mg — and states they are for patients in Ontario, do not account for insurance coverage, and reflect the cost after the Patient Support Program discount is applied (verified 2026-08-14). Those are medication prices only; the visit fees above are separate.
• Mounjaro-specific: no generic to fall back on. Every tirzepatide product in Health Canada’s Drug Product Database is sponsored by Eli Lilly Canada — no second sponsor appears (verified 2026-08-14), so the generic price ladder that exists for semaglutide has no tirzepatide equivalent. Until 2026-08-14 this page told readers that no provider on our verified list was known to dispense tirzepatide. That was wrong, and it was wrong in the direction that costs a reader money: Felix publishes a per-pen price page for Mounjaro, and another for Zepbound, alongside its semaglutide ones. Hims Canada lists Mounjaro and Zepbound in its site-wide medication lineup but publishes no price for any medication at all — it states the estimated cost per refill is shown during the online visit, with a $12.99 fill fee on each refill. Maple neither prices nor dispenses: it states any prescribed medication is an additional cost paid to the issuing pharmacy, which calls you to take payment. (All verified 2026-08-14.)

Read that ladder against the semaglutide one at the same provider and the real Mounjaro fact appears: the entry price is $350.60 for a single 2.5mg pen, where the same provider’s generic semaglutide starts at $149 for a pen and its brand-name Ozempic at the same $149 (verified 2026-08-14). None of those figures includes the visit fees, and none of them is a monthly rate — what you pay tracks the dose you are on and how many pens it takes. Prescribing authority does not change with the molecule — the prescriber types who can write a semaglutide prescription can write a tirzepatide one. Where you live decides which of them you would actually meet.

Which leaves the practical question this page exists to answer: what the tirzepatide route costs before anyone has assessed you. At Felix the initial visit is $0, with $40 charged on every visit after it (verified 2026-08-14).

Two facts apply to tirzepatide in ways they do not apply to the rest of the category. First, British Columbia: on July 17, 2025 the province extended its limits-on-sale regulation — written in April 2023 for semaglutide products — to tirzepatide (Mounjaro) and dulaglutide (Trulicity) (verified 2026-08-14, news.gov.bc.ca; cited in full on our British Columbia page). For a Canadian resident filling a prescription nothing changes in practice — the rule restricts non-resident purchases, and its visible effect is that BC pharmacies may verify residency details while dispensing. It is the only province-specific statute naming tirzepatide on our verified list.

Second, supply — stated structurally, because supply is a stock fact rather than a prescription fact, and a stock fact printed on a reference page is wrong within weeks. One dated statement is worth recording, and it is Health Canada’s own: the federal supply notice covering this class carries a resolution dated January 27, 2025, and names Mounjaro among the products it had covered (verified 2026-08-14). A national notice from 2025 is not a report on the shelf at your pharmacy today, so this page states no current stock status. What holds regardless: a prescription stays valid through a stock gap, the dispensing pharmacy is the right first call on timing, and moving a prescription to a pharmacy that has stock is a routine transfer. Anything dated belongs in news, where it can carry the date it was true.

A Mounjaro prescription authorizes a set supply with a set number of refills. When the refills are spent the prescription is done, and only a prescriber’s renewal continues it — a renewal being a clinical review, never an automatic continuation.

• Back to the original prescriber. Family physicians and NPs handle renewals as routine appointments.
• Through an online provider. A renewal application is screened against the provider’s published intake criteria by a licensed clinician, exactly like a first application. The walkthrough is at renewals.
• At the pharmacy, where provincial rules allow. Whether a pharmacist may renew or adapt an existing prescription is set provincially, and the rules differ sharply — our Ontario, British Columbia and Alberta pages carry each regulator’s published position with citations. One class-level fact applies everywhere: tirzepatide carries no controlled-substance designation in Health Canada’s Drug Product Database (verified 2026-08-14), so the tighter rules that govern those drugs are not what is in the way.
• The Mounjaro-specific wrinkle. The price question travels with the renewal. Tirzepatide is priced per pen and rises with dose — $350.60 to $501.88 at Felix, for patients in Ontario and after its Patient Support Program discount (verified 2026-08-14) — so before moving an active file, work out what your current dose would cost at the receiving provider rather than assuming a monthly figure.
